This is the first major monograph dedicated to the work of Giuseppe Penone, one the most remarkable sculptors of his generation.
The editor of this volume, Laurent Busine, director of the Musée des
Arts Contemporains at the Grand-Hornu, worked closely with the artist,
and offers an approach to Penones work in seven thematic chapters: Breath, Gaze, Skin, Heart, Blood, Memory and Speech making a place
for the human within the scope of this sculptural output.
The book also contains essays written by renowned critics, including Benjamin Buchloh, Rosenblatt Professor of Modern Art at Harvard University, who conducted a lengthy interview with Penone, and Didier Semin, professor at Pariss Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts,
who offers an insightful interpretation of the artists remarkable
Tree of Vowels.
The volume has 408 pages and 350 illustrations, and includes a critical study by Daniela Lancioni and scholarly materials that provide the reader with a clear overview of Giuseppe Penones entire oeuvre, as well as his critical role in contemporary art.

Laurent Busine is currently Director of the MACs at the Grand-Hornu.
